Anita is a Northern Ontario artist who works in various mediums such as oil, pastel, acrylic and watercolour. The love of the northern landscape continues to inspire her to want to express it with these mediums. Lately she has been creating a series of impressionistic florals. These come about rather intuitively so you never know the end result. Experimenting with different mediums such as texture pastes and glazes, along with different tools give the pieces their unique look and feel, along with a lot of fun. Letting go is the excercise which can be scary and exciting at the same time.
Anita is continually learning through books and online communities. Through the art clubs in the past she has had the opportunity to take many workshops with some great Canadian artists such as the late Brian Ateyo, Sam Panoessa, Ivan Wheele, John David Anderson and Gordon Mackenzie to name a few. These artists are invaluable by sharing their knowledge with us. Other artists who inspire her are Richard Schmid and Albert Handell.
To be out in nature is where I feel most relaxed and connected to this world. When I come across a particular quality of light and colour in the landscape, that’s what inspires me to paint. Nature has a way of endlessly presenting herself in awe inspiring ways and so the adventure of finding it is what keeps the journey exciting. My mission is to capture the feeling in a way that the viewer can connect. To quote Robert Henri…” The object isn’t to make art, it’s to be in that wonderful state that makes art inevitable”.
