Bill Whittaker gained fame as an expert decoy carver under the tutelage of master carver Orest Andrews. Working hunting decoys evolved into decorative bird carvings. In 1986 Bill was commissioned to carve a pair of Hooded Mergansers presented to Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II when she officially opened Science North. Retirement has allowed Bill to pursue other creative outlets including acrylic and oil painting plus soapstone carving.
I enjoy painting. I find it to be very relaxing. Somedays I go into my studio a little stressed about the day’s happenings. As soon as I pick up a paint brush it all changes and calmness returns. Emily Urquhart in her book “The Age of Creativity” says being creative in our older years can be very beneficial to our overall well-being. I have every intention of painting to the very end of life thus reaping the benefits. lol
