Paddy O’Sullivan

Artist Bio

Sudbury, Ontario
Paddy O’Sullivan grew up in Timmins, Ontario, and has resided in Sudbury since 1978. He studied at Laurentian University where he received both undergraduate and graduate degrees. Before pursuing art as a key activity in his life he spent years developing an international practice as an group facilitator, team developer and leadership coach. One of his beliefs is that art can help invigorate and support a more soulful environment in homes and workplaces, by inspiring people with visual art that lifts their minds, hearts and spirits. Some of his paintings are hanging in private and corporate collections in Scotland, France, Saudi, Arabia, the United States and Canada.
From the simple shape of a flower or the forming of the cosmos, nature has a way of expressing itself through color and form that allows it at times to assume identifiable structures, textures and shapes. Sometimes these forms last only momentarily like the forms that are expressed in an aquatic environment or in the gaseous forms of outer space and at other times these forms, like in the case of a flower give us a longer lasting sense of permanence. However, all of nature is in motion. Nature shows herself to us through her energy cycle that allows for continuous creation and transformation. Some of her moments of creation and transformation last longer than others. All we need to do is to be open to her wonder and use our senses and we will see her reveal herself. My preferred methods of creating are to create on large canvas using vibrant acrylic painting and highly energized movements. My hope is that the art that is created through me has a calming effect on the viewer. That the viewer feels more centered and feels good about themselves. For this reason I am in a constant state of experimentation allowing new ideas of expression to find their way to the canvas.
